Threadless Retails Opens in Chicago

Threadless finally launched a retail store in Chicago. Although I don't think Threadless are quite what they used to be a year or two ago the store looks pretty impressive and has been kitted and fitted with loads of new stuff including new iMacs which look superb. This little quote from their site explains it all really.

"We decided to focus the store on just the newest 2 weeks worth of designs plus a few exclusives, starting with the Glennz/Arzie13 tee. There will only be 20 designs for sale in the store at any given moment. Each of the 20 designs gets its own special area complete with an LCD display cycling through various photos and close-ups of the design, comments from the original submission and other rad stuff. The designs for sale will change weekly, as will the store window."

They're also introducing some unique features such as releasing new tees in store first before announcing them online on Fridays, Threadless Upstairs - a space in store to offer group crits, digital/creative lessons and seminars and talks by winning designs which could be very engaging. Hopefully some will appear on YouTube soon. They've also introduced a nifty bag policy - Reusable Tote-style Bags.

Blik Graphics

Wall graphics and vinyls are way cool. Blik have been doing a 'heart' threadless promo for a while now and some of them look awesome. Maybe when I finally get a place on my own after graduating I may have to invest. Blik are also running a vote system to turn many other Threadless designs into surface graphics here.

Great playful little site and some really nice photography of the vinyls and stickers in actions (they might not actually be vinyls though).

Quantic

I've been a bit of a geek lately and trying to sort out my music collection and get all the album artwork. I know stupid ah but it's a complete mess. Anyway whilst looking for a Bonobo album I stumbled on this gem. Never listened to Quantic but very cool album cover.

Part of the One Off's Remixes and B Sides collection, kind of along the lines of DJ Kicks, Back to Mine, etc. I'm sure you could build an epic music collection just by having all these albums. Honest.

Its been a week since I last blogged - not good I know so lets start off with something important.

Marc Aurel

Hi-res photos from Marc Aurel. Some really nice touchs for this new collection website. Sit on the home pages as models hair wafts around in the air. The way the images and figures move independently of each other, especially between transitions in the photos and flip book-like navigation works really effectivly and makes the work far more engaging presentation wise.

University exhibitions

Not an amazing flyer for an exhibition at Saint Martins but a vehicle for me to rant about universities. Makes me realise how bad my university is for the lack any sort of good advertisement - well thought out design - for work of undergrads not in their final year and the lack of exhibitions especially for people in Vis Com. Maybe its just that this one is in London, but for the last 3rd year (2nd year in England) work in progress exhibition, the flyers and design were so appalling and weren't even offered to be designed by a Graphic Designer (designed by a fashion designer I think). I'll try and dig out a copy and post it up online. Stupid university politics.

OkapiStudio

Some sweet pieces of work from OkapiStudio's portfolio for various clients. I really like the tees and packaging for the Sunday work and the fact that the opening page of their website is there work - straight to the point and I like it. Darn you Olly Moss!!!

Some new tees have been released on Threadless and theres some good stuff as well. I think that the quality of tees have been slipping a bit recently, so its good to see some good looking pieces of work. Surprise suprise though, Olly Moss comes out with another great design. His website is worth a look as well even if not all the illustrations are at the same high standard.

There so much detail on this illustration - remind me of something Amy would do.

I really like the illustration style of this, especially on models.

Serial Cut

The stuff over at http://www.serialcut.com/ is an a league of its own. Its really good to see people imaging making in 3D and cutting and pasting in the real world without choosing to just do it all digitally. Inspiring.



Funnily enough the stuff for Colour&Illusions Fan Poster a few images down - with the Purple words and such - we have some of those in our studio after stealing them from a skip in Glasgow one early morning.
